How to apply for temporary registration at the post office - step-by-step instructions
To begin with, a citizen must collect all the documents that will be needed for registration.
The papers are sent by mail, and after receipt they are examined by the passport office employees.

- view shipment history;
- obtain information about the rules for the provision of postal services;
- find out the cost of sending a letter or parcel, as well as tariffs for additional services;
- order delivery of mail to your home.
The latter service is provided only to residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The additional module “Sending” is available to corporate clients. To use it you must enter into an agreement with Russian Post.
How to track a letter or parcel?
The shipment tracking service is located on the main page of the website https://www.pochta.ru. After logging into your Personal Account, practically nothing changes, only the user’s full name is displayed instead of the “Login” button.
To find a letter or parcel, you need to enter the track number in the provided field. The number is assigned to the shipment upon delivery at the department and is displayed on the payment receipt. After entering the track, the history of the object's movement will be displayed. International mail items are tracked if the track numbers begin with the letters R, C, E, V and L. A simple shipment from abroad cannot be tracked in Russia - it is not registered in the postal information system.
The history can be printed, or you can set up to receive notifications about events by email. You can also delete the history; in this case, the letter or parcel will not be reflected in your personal account.
Entered requests are saved in your Personal Account and are available through the pop-up menu of your Personal Account. It appears when you click on the username in the upper right corner of the pages.

The service allows you to calculate the cost of sending a letter, parcel or postcard. To do this, you need to go to the corresponding menu item from the main page of the personal account.
Submenus of shipments contain Rules for the provision of services and other useful information. For example, answers to questions about how to fill out an address, how to pack a parcel, etc. In the “Postcards” section online, you can select a sample postcard that suits the event, sign and send it. Payment for services is carried out using bank cards.
Through the “Money Transfers” section, you can choose the best option for sending funds, determine the cost of the service, and find the nearest post office. The “Branches” section includes the function of searching for an office by address or zip code, viewing operating hours and services provided.
In other sections of the main menu, the client can:
- call a courier;
- subscribe online to printed publications;
- find a suitable form, fill out and print it for presentation to the department;
- set up receiving emails from government agencies (registration on the State Services website is required);
- purchase goods at PochtaMarket;
- go to the Post Bank website;
- Write an email to the post office staff.
Service Sending
Additional services for pre-postal preparation of postal items are available only for corporate clients who have entered into an agreement with Russian Post. Online services are provided after additional registration in the service on the page https://otpravka.pochta.ru.
Service functions:
- loading information into the mail system from your own files or programs;
- control over the correct spelling of the address and selection of the post office code;
- calculation of shipping costs;
- receiving and assigning a track number to all shipments;
- preparation of all necessary documents and registration of labels;
- tracking of sent letters and parcels.
How long will it take to register?
As soon as the addressee receives the papers, the period specified by law begins to count.
This is 3–8 days, which are given to study the documents.
Let’s say the letter arrives by mail in a few days, then the migration service will review the paper for 3-4 days.
It will then take about 1-2 days for the notice to be sent to the applicant and a few more days until the applicant visits the passport office in person.

Security and privacy rules
According to the Rules for Using the Personal Account, the user is independently responsible for:

There is no such concept as extension of temporary registration in Russian legislation.

But it is no longer possible to send documents by mail.
The easiest way to do this is through the multifunctional center.
Re-registration is a rather complicated procedure, since a person must have serious reasons for obtaining such a registration . Therefore, not all citizens, and especially foreigners, are allowed to stay at the specified address.
In practice, the applicant needs to carry out all the same actions as the first time. That is, collect documents and transfer them to the migration service, only now in person or through the MFC. An application and consent to stay from the owner of the property and his family members will be required.
As for the terms of re-registration, the minimum period is 1 year, and the maximum is 5 years . If the housing is municipal, that is, not privatized, then the maximum period of stay is only six months.
Reasons for refusal
A citizen may be refused registration actions on the following grounds:
- provision of an incomplete package of documents;
- submission of false acts;
- incorrect filling out of the application, etc.
In case of unlawful refusal, the actions of officials can be appealed in court.
Thus, registration through Russian Post is possible for both foreign citizens and Russians. To do this, you need to collect a package of documents and send them to the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation by registered mail.
Penalties
Living for a long time without temporary registration means that the person will have to pay a certain fine. The violator is obliged to pay 2–3 thousand rubles. sanctions also apply to the citizen who provided him with his housing. The fine is 2–5 thousand rubles.

Based on the above documents, in 2021, a guest from a visa-free republic has the right to reside in the country for 90 days over 6 months and 180 days in total throughout the year without a temporary residence permit.
